In 1946, the first ever Penguin Classic was published - E. V. Rieu's translation of Homer's Odyssey. In 2006, with Penguin Classics, Modern Classics and Red Classics, this world famous series consists of over 1200 titles ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. You can read more about our last sixty years here.

There's a lot happening this year to celebrate our 60th anniversary. In January we launched a whole new series, Red Classics and now we're going back to our roots with Penguin Epics, twenty short tales of human adventure, legend and myth. There's much more to come in 2006, with new arrivals to Penguin Classics including John Updike, Don DeLillo and The Bible. In November, we bring you the Designer Classics - we're letting some of the world's favourite designers, including Manolo Blahnik, Paul Smith and Sam Taylor-Wood, loose on their favourite books.

The odyssey continues... sign up here to receive the very latest news about what's happening to Penguin Classics this year, as well as details of exclusive offers, competitions and events.

To mark our anniversary and 60 years since Homer's Odyssey became the first Penguin Classic - we've selected twenty of the most exciting adventures from the Classics list featuring everyone from Sinbad to King Arthur.
